As the golf season begins, some thoughts to ponder....

  • Never try to keep more than 300 separate thoughts in your mind during your swing.

  • When your shot has to carry over a water hazard, you can either hit one more club or two more balls.

  • If you're afraid a full shot might reach the green while the foursome ahead of you is still putting out, you have two options: you can immediately shank a lay-up or you can wait until the green is clear and top a ball halfway there.

  • No matter how bad you are playing, it is always possible to play worse.

  • Everyone replaces his divot after a perfect approach shot.

  • Nonchalant putts count the same as chalant putts.

  • You can hit a two acre fairway 10% of the time and a two-inch branch 90% of the time.

  • The game of golf is 90% mental and 10% mental.

  • Hazards attract, fairways repel.

  • You can put "draw" on the ball, you can put "fade" on the ball, but no golfer can put "straight" on the ball.

  • A ball you can see in the rough from 50 yards away is not yours. If there is a ball in the fringe and a ball in the bunker, your ball is in the bunker. If both balls are in the bunker, yours is in the footprint.

Helpful Hints to Speed-up the Game of Golf....
      ON THE TEE:
  • Tee off as soon as the group in front is clear.

  • Carry an extra ball in your pocket.

  • Limit conversations until you leave the tee.

  • Short hitters hit first. No honors.

  • Mark each straying ball by a tree or bush.

ON THE FAIRWAY:
  • Select club and hit without delay.

  • Watch your ball. Mark it if it leaves the fairway.

  • Help search for lost balls AFTER you hit your shot.

  • Drop your cart passenger, THEN drive to your ball.

ON THE GREEN:
  • Place clubs and carts between green and next tee.

  • Study your putt while others are putting.

  • Use continuous putting.

  • If you are lagging behind, after holing out, immediately walk up to next tee and tee off.

FROM GREEN TO TEE:
  • Leave green immediately after last player has holed out.

  • Mark scores AFTER you leave the green.

  • Hit tee shot without delay.

IN GENERAL:
  • You MUST keep pace with the group ahead or play within a 4 hour round.

  • No golf lessons on the course.

  • Keep practice to a minimum.

Words of Wisdom on Golf from Jane Blalock...
Give it your best, but always with the realization that your happiness and your livelihood are not riding on the next shot.
